Partners in Costs and Spinal Injuries Association launch new social enterprise

Partners in Costs (PIC), a division of Frenkel Topping Group, and the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) have launched a new social enterprise.

For at least the next five years, PIC will work with SIA to help break down jargon surrounding legal costs into language that anyone can understand, helping clients to make an informed decision about the experts they wish to work with. The costs specialists have more than 28 years of experience in advising on cases involving brain and spinal cord injury.

Reuben Glynn, managing director at Partners in Costs Ltd, said: “At PIC, we understand how daunting it can be for clients to choose a solicitor to represent them, especially on such a serious and sensitive matter as a life-changing injury – and even more so when you’re not a legal expert and during a particularly tough time as someone adjusting to life after injury.

“Most people outside the profession don’t fully understand the complicated legal jargon surrounding legal costs. We can help clients by making the legal terminology more digestible so they can make the right decision for them.”

Some of the terms PIC can help clients with include:

  • Conditional fee agreements (also known as ‘no win, no fee’)
  • Success fees
  • Hourly rates
  • ‘After the event’ insurance
  • Client care letters
  • Terms of business

PIC will provide independent and objective guidance on how a chosen solicitor will charge for legal services.

PIC was chosen as SIA’s new enterprise partner after a rigorous and robust selection process that saw research undertaken into various cost drafting firms, meetings with trusted legal partners to gain feedback, and in-depth interviews by SIA’s Enterprise Board.

PIC’s 28 years of experience in the field of spinal cord injury was highlighted as a key reason for the firm being chosen for the social enterprise.

SIA will benefit financially from the new relationship, with income from the social enterprise being reinvested into the charity to help fund vital services for spinal cord injured people such as a support line, professional counselling, clinical advocacy and regional support networks.

If SIA’s trusted legal partners and business members use PIC for cost draftsman services then PIC will share revenue from SIA-recommended SCI cases as part of the new relationship, but also from non-SCI cases introduced to them via its relationship with SIA.

Anna Saunders, SIA’s director of business development said: Spinal Injuries Association is delighted to be launching this new social enterprise with Partners in Costs. As the national association for all people affected by spinal cord injury, SIA is building a network of partners that cater for all the needs of the people we serve. This new venture will raise awareness of the services PIC can offer, whilst also generating vital income to help fund the delivery and development of our charitable activities. PIC are passionate about supporting the spinal cord injury community and have already gone above and beyond to support SIA through partnership activities and events. We’re excited by what we can achieve together through this new social enterprise.”

Reuben Glynn added: “For over 28 years we have been involved in advising on legal costs on cases involving spinal cord injury, and we are looking forward to working more closely with SIA, supporting SCI people going through the legal process.”
