I have been working in costs for 9 years.

What work do you do?

I am a Costs Lawyer at PIC. I prepare Bills of Costs, Schedules, Costs Budgets, Claim 1s and Court of Protection bills.

My work covers a wide range of matters, from lower-value clinical negligence cases through to more complex and high-value claims involving road traffic accidents, birth injury, Cauda Equina Syndrome and catastrophic injury.

Interesting cases

• A £275,000 damages road traffic collision case involving a woman who was knocked off her bicycle and suffered a brain injury.
• A £2.275 million damages road traffic collision case involving a 17-year-old girl who was a passenger in a motor vehicle and suffered a head injury and transfemoral amputation of the left leg. The driver died at the scene of the accident, and the case lasted 5 years.
• A £135,000 damages Cauda Equina Syndrome case involving a prisoner, with complex causation issues. The case lasted 6 years.
• A local authority child abuse case, which lasted 6 years.
• A £1.5 million lump sum award plus £95,000 annual periodical payments birth injury case, which lasted 15 years.
• A Royal Navy assault case involving a 32-year-old man who suffered severe psychiatric injuries, resulting in his admission as a patient under the Mental Health Act 1983. The case involved complex liability and causation issues.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies and TV programmes, reading, and going on family holidays with my partner and daughter.
