How long have you been working in costs?
I started working in costs in 2001. My career in costs has given me a unique insight into the workings of legal practices as well as experience in the whole range of costs law including family, legal aid, clinical negligence and contentious probate
When did you join PIC?
What work do you do?
I am the Head of the Court of Protection team. Additionally, I carry out client account reviews across all areas of costs as part of my work within the Business Development team.
I am the firms charity champion, supporting Headway the brain injury association, the Spinal Injuries Association, Back Up Trust, the Children’s Brain Injury Trust and the Mary Seacole Trust as well as others.
Some interesting cases
Court of Protection case for general management – severe brain injury with a team of carers involving international abduction and special guardianship
Legal Aid clinical negligence case – involving a claimant by their parent acting as a litigation friend resulting in a multimillion pound settlement and now prepare the general management costs in the Court of Protection
Court of Protection case with the costs of general management reduced from £11,200.00 down to £7,500.00. On appeal increased to £8,000.00 – oral hearing before Master Haworth results in £10,500.00 recovery
Additional personal details:
I am a SwimRun participant, and enjoy open water swimming, triathlons and kayaking. I took part in an English Channel Relay Swim in June 2018 raising money for Headway UK.
I am Chair of my local Headway branch in Huddersfield.
